Extract from Speech by OFM client at Reception on 8th May 2008

"During 2005 my ex wife and I underwent a course of mediation with the Oxfordshire Family Mediation. I was approached earlier this year as the Director had heard how fortunate I felt in having experienced the service. We were recommended to OFM by Relate and rather nervously stood in the pouring rain one afternoon on the pavement in Headington waiting for our first appointment with our mediator. The process was a revelation to us both. Over 4 or 5 sessions and during a fraught time our mediator was professional, friendly and open. He handled the issues in a straightforward and no nonsense manner with things being resolved in a crisp and clear way, but never let us feel hurried, railroaded or trampled. The key issues of money, property, custody and the children’s wellbeing were  gently teased apart and put back together in a way that my ex wife and I felt was fair to both parties.  Financial and emotional guidance was always close at hand and humour played its part from time to time. After we came to a conclusion and our agreement was written down a sense of relief was felt by my ex-wife and I. We promptly instructed our solicitors and made it very clear to them that we did not want our hard earned agreement to be “unpicked” and thankfully they both followed our brief to the letter. My ex wife and I are certain that OFM has contributed hugely to our children being able to come through our separation relatively unscathed, as they saw us collaborating and communicating at every stage. There were no secrets kept, which can be so corrosive to children’s confidence in parents and in their future. We were so privileged to have had great skill and talent brought to bear on our problem and we feel certain that this approach is enshrined within the service that OFM offers so professionally from its base in Headington have been very proud to have been associated with the service and feel that it has contributed greatly to my emotional health and wellbeing."
