Mediators are impartial, they do not judge, take sides or seek to persuade.
They assist and help you express your views and find common ground so that
you can reach an agreement with your former spouse or partner on the best
way forward in all the circumstances.
Mediators are drawn from a variety of backgrounds including law, business,
teaching, engineering, local government, social work and counselling. They
all however have certain things in common;
- they are trained by National Family Mediation to an agreed level of
competence,
- and once their initial training is completed all mediators continue as
trainees for a further 18 months to two years working alongside
experienced mediators.
- mediators are then competence assessed by the National Family
Mediation Council in order to be recognised by the Legal Services
Commission.
Mediator(s) never take sides they only ever seek to help you to find the
common ground and your own solutions.
They are there to help you to find the right path for you.
All mediators are
trained by National Family Mediation or other approved body, are
competence assessed to Legal Services Commission requirements and
participate in annual continuous professional development trainings. Mediators
receive regular supervision within the service.
