Training And Workshops

The way your mediation enquiry will be handled has changed. OFM office staff will no longer take new referrals, which should now be sent directly to the mediators listed below.

OFM will continue to work with all existing clients through our office in Witney until June.

Oxfordshire Family Mediation is a charity that will soon cease to operate. However, its team of experienced mediators will continue to provide family mediation on an independent basis. The mediators can be contacted directly to discuss and make arrangements for mediation with you.

Mediation is a very important part of reducing conflict during divorce and separation and in helping those affected to reach fair solutions. If you think you may be eligible for Legal Aid, please let the mediator know when you make contact to find out about your options.

We will do all we can to ensure that you will continue to be satisfied with the mediation service we provide during this transition period.

If you are already part of an ‘open file’ and have any concerns please feel free to email or call on 08448476658 or 01993 708 546.

Our Children’s Voice service is to continue for now and so we still welcome applications and referrals.

Training And Workshops

Oxfordshire Family Mediation offer specialist training and workshops for parents, individuals and professionals, covering a wide range of topics surrounding family separation.

SPIP (Separated Parents Information Programme)

The Separated Parents Information Programme (SPIP) is designed to help separated parents become clear about what their children need most from them and learn the fundamental principles of how to manage conflict and difficulties – including how to put this into practice.

Attendance on this 4 hour programme can be arranged in two ways:

  1. The Court may order people to attend
  2. People who are keen to get help outside the Court system can contact us directly about the programme

For further information on the programme please speak with your Mediator or contact us on 0844 847 6658 or email

We are currently revising the training offered and would be interested to hear of your requirements.

Other Training days we offer

Workshops for Parents and Individuals

Our workshops provide parents with a crucial insight into what separation is like from a child’s perspective. It allows parents to look at their children’s feelings, behaviours and needs, and then allows them to work out the best strategies to support these needs during a difficult time.

This workshop is also suitable for separated individuals who do not have children, as it explores how to cope with loss, communication methods for talking with your ex-partner, and exploring support systems.

We can also provide information for extended family members and friends who would like information and advice on helping and supporting separated parents who are in conflict. This can be a very difficult area for people, where they want to help, but are unsure of the best way to do so.

Professionals Supporting Children

Our training for professionals, including teachers and pastoral support workers in schools, is tailored and adapted to suit the needs of each organisation we work with.

Our core training package includes:

  • Understanding the impact of parental separation on children and young people - including 'exploring the separation journey'
  • Recognising the variety of responses exhibited by children and young people affected by family breakdown
  • Learning how to support and respond to children and their families during or after separation/divorce
  • Practical information, resources and activities
  • Listening skills
  • Responding to conflict

Depending on the needs of your organisation, we will tailor the length and content of the training session. Our standard training package involves a day’s training that can be split into two half days if you should wish.

Training for Professionals and Advisors

If someone came to you in your professional capacity asking for advice about separation, would you know what to say? We offer training to CAB workers, GPs, counsellors and anybody who may come into contact with separated families on a regular basis.

Our training offers an opportunity to find out about mediation, as well as helping you to support families asking for help.

  • Legal frameworks for divorce, court solutions and financial relief
  • Responding to conflict
  • Situations of families
  • Understanding the experiences of all involved

This training is delivered as a half day session. If you would prefer we can deliver the sessions in two slots of two hours each.

Assemblies and PSHE Sessions

OFM are available to come into schools to offer assemblies and PSHE sessions on the issue of family breakdown and the support available through our Children and Young People's services.

"We were really pleased with OFM's presentation at our school. It was focused, articulate and informative. Thank you". (Carolyn Whiting, Assistant Headteacher/Head of Sixth Form at Wood Green School)

"I just wanted to thank you again for coming and giving a talk to the students about your service - they all said they found it interesting and recommended you come back again!" (Elizabeth Clarke, Lecturer in Social Work at Oxford Brookes University)
